So allow me to launch into a brief love letter of the game that is consuming my life.

Banished.

This game is superb if you love resouce management strategy games.

The premise is simple, survival. Get enough resources to grow your settlement and make it through the winter.

To do this you will need to manage resources and harness your most important resource; people. Food is crucial for survival but so is firewood for heating. You need a varied diet so you will divide your people into jobs being it farmers fishermen etc.

As your settlement grows you can trade with neighbours buying their goods and using them to expand your own resources such as seeds and livestock.

For example you can build a tailor who has 3 recipes. Leather / wool or warm weather which is wool + leather. So if you have cows you can do one or sheep the other but to get the best you need both which will require trade.

Thats about it. Survival. But its the best $20 ive spent in a long time.

An additional note, the game is made by 1 guy. So that $20 he will get $16 of it from steam after comission. So thats real money going to a real person. This isnt EA going to a profit margin so Trip Hawken and the shareholders can buy new porsche. This is giving him a living. So dont be stingy and wait for a sale. Go and bloody buy it.

hah yeah, well while all the groovy kids were watching network TV with Scooby-doo and Fat Albert etc, I had my TV on the UHF watching B&W reruns like lost in space, f troop, flash Gordon, even Mr Ed! And there is already a fire going in the next county over now. Going to be a long week. Usually we have good humidity this time of year, we call it June gloom, but not happening this year at all, and everything has already dried out.

hmmm "a paddock is a field of grassland of any size" Though here we call paddock an enclosure for horses. This field is a farm, often grow barley (for beer actually, I know the owners) but other things sometimes. Nothing growing there for some time except wild grass, just too much drought. The tilled dirt is actually a fire break, the fire department (CDF/CAL FIRE) has been requiring all the farms around here to make fire breaks this year it seems, strategic locations. We have had some real fires here, epic.

Yep, spaghetti westerns are pretty solid. Low-budget high-quality flicks. In the past decade, probably my favorite western was Open Range. Beyond that, Tombstone and Unforgiven. Then lots of flicks from the 60's. Hang 'em high, for a few dollars more, Rio Lobo etc.

Never been a western fan. I grew up on WW2 drama like the guns of navarone etc.

ewwww I almost had that done. Blew a disc some years ago, was agony. Decided to let it heal on it's own, rather than a replacement. It was from a compact injury. Pain ran from lower disc (3rd) right down to my legs. Fun times...

How the hell do you guys manage it without invuls?

Hmm.

My issue is while I have Poasting V I only have Trolling I. The problem is the Wil/antichar modifiier. I have too much charisma to train it well to be a good troll. Then you have UAE who shows what a high char/wil bonus is when applied to trolling, he is like the Zen Master of Troll-fu-do.

I think I'll just sit pretty with Fabulous V and Advanced Jovian Invul Field V and make the concessional trips to GD once my shields recharge passively.

Though for me this isnt an issue. Server goes down at around 9pm here. Since i usually finish work at 9, by the time i get home around around 9:30-10pm the sever is back up.

oh yawn finally logged. Grinding standings and tuning a disposable breacher fit in a way I like. Mostly really fast and extended light missile range. Yeah... but those guys are gone and replaced with others. I was there for the first server test. It was community supported open source, programming starting after the live servers went sunset. Eventually the original programmers were replace with new guys. They closed the source code and started talking about making money for themselves. Then the community started turning into the typical nasty EMU game community.

Haven't been around there for a few years now, I hope all those fail coders got kicked. The original coders were awesome guys, no matter what these new guys said about them, which there was a lot of open hostility over in the old forums. Stupid drama. The whole closing of the open source code was a kicker for me though, we didn't support the project just so some monkeys can take it for themselves. It was never suppose to be for some one official server, but so we could also run home servers for our friends etc. making our own content and such. Just crazy

Oh and that download, it all mostly dds image files, was over 1GB when we had it finished. Converted the textures to DirectX .dds compression. It's the only image compression that remains compressed in memory, not just on the hard drive. Even jpg, in memory it becomes full size like a bmp image file, but dds remains small/compressed. I do most of my work in that format, it's really nice and makes for much better memory management in big environments.

Take a flu shot? I wouldn't take one until after 50-55, maybe even after 60 depending on health. Of course having pre-existing health problems maybe younger. Flu shots can cause problems, but probably worth the risk for those more at risk of having tough symptoms of full blown flu. I'm just a few years younger than you, haven't had the flu in decades, and never took a shot. Anyway, feed a fever, get plenty of sleep. Too much alcohol won't help, just dehydrate you and make things worse. Otherwise, when not sick, eat healthy and get plenty of sleep.
